I’ve played 4 TALES games counting this one. TALES of Symphonia, Legendia, Abyss and now Vesperia. By far Vesperia is the worst Tales game I’ve played. There are many things I didn’t like about the game.
1. The graphics for this game weren’t very good.
2. The story wasn’t captivating. It just didn’t keep me interested in the game. I know they used the environmental theme for the game. They could have done a much better job with the theme and the story. If you want a great game that tackles that theme get Final Fantasy VII. I had to try real hard to get through the game.
3. The characters were terrible. I wasn’t interested or cared about any of them. Yuri was uninteresting and came off as a cold hearted bastard, not good for the lead character of a RPG. Estelle was just boring and I didn’t care about her story. Karol and Rita just didn’t add anything to the game. Raven started out well in the game and I did like him. I wanted him to stay dead, it was just a great ending for his character, but now they decided to bring him back to life, what a rip.
The only characters I did like were Judith. I thought Judith and Yuri would get together, they were a much better than Yuri and Estelle, and I think it would have made Yuri more interesting, but the creators didn’t take the game in that direction. I also liked Repede, he was just a fun character and they way he interacted with the other characters. My favorite character in the game was a minor character and turns out to be on of the bad guys. Yes it’s Duke. I really like his story and character. At the end of the game I actually wanted him to win some how, even though I knew it wasn’t possible.
Oh yes did I mention was a let down of a ending. Talk about a waste of my time.
I am really disappointed with Namco/Bandai. I have really liked the TALES games until this one. It’s just really sad.
1. TALES OF ABYSS: 10
2. TALES OF SYMPHONIA: 9
3. TALES OF LEGENDIA: 8
4. TALES OF VESPERIA: 4

After beating Tales of Symphonia (ToS) atleast 5 times back on the GC, I was exciting to see the newest game in the franchise to arrive on the 360, however it turned out to be one of the worst games that I have ever played
The story starts out with poor 21 year-old named Yuri who lives in the lower quarter of the capital of the empire and one day, someone steals a blue rock (known as blastia which is the pinnicle of technology and a way of life for people) and takes off with it, however due to removing it, it causes all of the water to go everywhere and flood the lower quarter. Yuri decides to go after said thief with his ragtag team that meets along the way which include his dog, a princess, a 12 year old orphan, a perverted old spy, and a half naked spear weilding elf dragoon.
The main problem with this game is the lack of story, because quite frankly, there is none. You spend 1/3 of the game trying to recover the afermentioned rock, and then the story changes drastically another 3-4 times that follows the same pattern (something major happens, everyone leaves for a while, everyone meets back up, и т.н.. ) And the ending is one of the worst, most complete garbage excuses for a game that I have ever seen.
On your first playthrough, it’ll take you roughly 40+ hours to complete, which is not including the various sidequests that you can come across, assuming that you even find them. Like most Tales games, its infamous to completely miss a side quest, simply by advacing the story, only so that you can never do said side quest again which would more than likely give you an item that would greatly help. This game even has a new feature to the series which are called “secret missions” which as the name implies, is something secret that you have to accomplish during a boss battle. In retrospect the idea sounds very good, however, it isnt. There are about 30 that you can complete and while optional, you wont get anything for completing every single one, unless your going for 100% completiong which would take another 2-3 playthroughs. Youll know if you completed a secret mission if the word “Great!” appears, afterwhich you only need to finish the battle and out of every single one, there are maybe 2 that help, 1 of which is nearly impossible to do while the other is obsolutely esstianly in winning the battle, while also at the same time very difficult to do.
The only reason this game receives a 2 out of a 5 is because the Tales series has a unique battle system of being in real time, however, not much has changed within 3 Години. Back on ToS, you moved on the same plane as the enemy did and moved back and forth as you saw fit and attacked them. In Vesperia, its the same exact thing, only this time you have the ability to walk around anywhere you want. Sound like a good idea? Well it isnt, more than half the time if even attempt to do so, the enemy almost always outruns you and nearly kills you, thus rendering this new feature pointless, which brings up another issue about the game, the AI.
To put it mildly, the AI is just terrible. There were countless times when I told my healer and mage to sit in the back and cast magic the entire time like their supposed to for every other RPG ever made, however, even after telling them countless times to do something, there was a 75% chance of them ignoring me and deciding to rush the enemy and fling their weapons wildly untill they died in a matter of a few minutes. Bosses werent any different either. You will find yourself constantly going through the same dungeon 7+ times just to level up because your too weak to kill the boss who litterally cheats. Every other battle followed the same pattern: the boss comboed everyone, usually you and your healer and/or mage to the point where when you finally got a chance to attack, someone was litterally about to die and so much and shoving them caused them to die. Most of the attacks they did stunned you and would somehow manage to reach across to the other side of the arena, which is something they usually did for your casters because so much as slapping them across the face caused them to fall down and stop casting. By the time that you acctually start doing good, they boss usually used their overlimit move (which anyone, even common enemies can use) which causes said person to make a blash of energy that sent everyone flying in all directions and when you hit them, they didnt flinch at all and could attack you as many times as they wanted without needing to take a break, which in the end brought you down to near death. Most of the bosses even had “nuke” abilities where they would do something so powerful that it killed more than half of your party, while the other half was about to die and more than likely stunned and laying on the ground with more than 2 status effects, usually giving the fight to the boss and causing you to throw the controller across the room. Most people will just say “Dont get hit then. ” but thats the problem, you cant avoid anything by bosses, even if you attempt to guard, they would break it in about 3-4 hits and then proceed to whail on you.
On a final note, the graphics arent that great either, the honestly dont look any different than they did back on the GC and only really have some improvements with a few extra movements of a persons body, and it has more animed cut scenes, but hardly. If your looking to play the Tales series, than completely skip this one and go play ToS on the GC because that game was a masterpeice.

I have been a fan of rpgs since final fantasy vi for super nintendo back in november of 1994 anyways being true to the classic tales of vesperia is what you would expect from the series saving the world from destruction wandering around the world map from town to town from dungeon to dungeon leveling up to your hearts content earning new skills through levil gaining buying weapons armors sythening new items all same old same old that I like the story itself is not bad kept me going my only real complaint with tales of vesperia is that I found the game to easy I am about 85-90% done with the game in I am not even sure if this tales game offers a maniac mode like the last 4 или 5 did but I really hope it has been added in there but overall its a solid tales game I would buy it if your a tales rpg fan

First, I’d like to consider myself an RPG fan, been playing since I got hooked on Phantasy Star2 for genesis ages ago. Since, played almost anything rpg for snes,n64,pc,gameboy, и (what little there was) Xbox. So I heldoff on my 360 til xmas 08′ to ensure a healthy selection of quality games, and began reviewing my favorite genre, RPG’s. In the end , when the dust had settled, my most prominent candidate was Tales of Vesperia. I had never played any of the other tales series games since I’m not a PS fan, at all. . . but the reviews were overwhelmingly positive so I went for it.
Like a naked man running through thorn bushes I felt violated with every step. I probably forced my way through about 15-20 hours before I hit the immovable object that finally sank me.
There were some good points , the interface and options, and combat was a change from turn-based that made for a bit of excitement, but so many things were missing from what I’ve considered quality rpg’s. The action maps were terrible, so linear and uninteresting with obstacles that most wedges of cheese could figure out. It gives you the feeling that you could actually play blind-folded and eventually stumble through the area. The towns are very similar, huge cities that comprise of about 50 in-game yards of running room.
I can’t advise on the story since I didn’t finish it, but I am very disappointed overall w/ the actually writing, no one would say these things. . . and if the ever did get them far away from me.
The game has a crafting feature which I was looking forward too and very nice cinematics. It also has a very detailed AI management feature for your party. In the end it felt more like I was watching someone else playing. . . than actually writing my own heroic epic. The final slice of the blade came when I tried to leave a town after saving a giant tree that was a living barrier for it’s people and was promptly slapped in the face with a huge on screen warning !!”You’re going the wrong way”!!
and was abrubtly turned around. I just as quickly withdrew my Tales cd from my 360. . .

When there are no other RPG’s out that I have not played I am glad to play anything and this game qualifies as anything. But the Tales of. . . games are, for me, average. В “unique” battle system results in lots of button mashing, I actually prefer turn based to this in most cases. The story is your typical RPG story which is not a bad thing, it is why I play these games after all. So for me the game was a good filler as I wait for Fable II to come out. Only real con was no way to skip through videos which made my desire to play it a 2nd time zero. If you are a big Tales of . . . fan you will like the game, if you are a big RPG fan you will probably feel the same as I do about the game.
