I had just finished Alan Wake–a giant disappointment. So I traded it in for Singularity and what a ride! Great game! It’s a combination of all the FPS games I love: FEAR, Bioshock, COD, and even a little bit Fallout3. What I really love is that there is NO map! You are truly wandering and in the adventure (way more than Alan Wake–I’m not a fan of 3person view anyway). Later on in the game you can “ping” to see where you are to go, but it’s more fun to not ping and try to figure it out. There are some definite challenges (I was stuck in the sewer for 2 days!) but that just adds to the fun. The story is ok, nothing too exciting, but it keeps you interested. There are only 4 actual weapons you can choose from on a regular basis with some odd weapons laying about here and there. But they are good weapons and if you hit an enemy you will kill it. I am really happy with this game! I hope they make a second one!

Either you weren’t paying attention, or you have never played Bioshock if you don’t see the similarities between these two games. And while Singularity is a solid first person shooter, it didn’t even touch Bioshock. This is not to say that Singularity doesn’t have its own spice it adds to the mix, but really all that the game has going for it is the technology specific to the game (В. E. the ability to age an enemy into dust, hurl them backwards, pick up and throw objects, and use those properties to solve fairly straightforward puzzles). Other than this one thing though, the game really doesn’t have anything going for it. Playing the game, I was never really immersed in it because I felt like everything I was seeing had been done before (and better) in previous games (Bioshock, Fallout).
Singularity didn’t bring much new to the table, and maybe what I really want in a game, more than anything, is a good story. Maybe that’s too much to ask for in a shooter, and maybe it’s the reason why I am only giving it three stars. But for me, good graphics and a solid shooter experience just doesn’t cut it for me. The combat is pretty well done. There are things that could have been better, a cover system for instance, so you don’t end up getting shot to hell all the time, but otherwise it’s pretty good. I did notice quite a bit of difficulty (I played on Normal) at the beginning of the game, before you acquire the TMD device that allows all of the time/spatial manipulation), and I was afraid the game was just going to be difficult the whole time, but things balanced out pretty well once you get the TMD.
The voice acting itself is pretty good, which is always a plus for a game, however, the script isn’t very good. Full of action one-liners at the beginning of the game like “Let’s get to the radio tower so we can get out of this circle-jerk. ” Wah wahhhhh. It’s not even that big of a deal, but things played out like a soap opera. The characters speak as if they are revealing some plot twist, when the story continues playing out in so clichéd a way that you know what is going to happen before they say it (or it just happens), so then their dramatization seems very silly.
Another thing I am growing tired of is playing a faceless and voiceless character. At the beginning, after your chopper goes down, the squad leader repeatedly asks over the radio if anyone else is out there. To which your character responds nothing. Really? Usually in games where your character has no voice, the persons speaking to you just TELL you things, they don’t ask things. So when someone asks repeatedly “Did anyone else f***ing make it?!” you expect your character to acknowledge in some way. It was just some of the things that didn’t make a whole lot of sense to me.
Speaking of things not making sense, the back-story in the game, as in, the intro, is told is a quick two minute montage. It runs through the basics of what is going on so fast you kind of feel overwhelmed. And at the end of the game I was left wondering why they bothered giving the game a story at all. They should have just given you all the technology and weapons and let you duke it out across various levels. It would have spared us all the cheesy dialogue and the redundant time-travel plot. So when you get your first breath of what’s to come, it’s inside a sort of introduction center to new arrivals coming to the island. There are notes strewn about you can read, and even a propaganda film that speaks of how the “Добър, strong, Добър, heroic, and good” Russian people must resist the evil western influences. But. . . the film is narrated IN ENGLISH. Seriously, WAT. Now I then thought that maybe your character speaks Russian, so the game just wants you to assume that you are hearing through the ears of your character, and he is translating for you. But I don’t really think so, I think the developers just didn’t realize it. It would have been more immersive for the film to be narrated in Russian with English subtitles so you understood what was going on. Same thing with the notes you can read in the game. Half of the notes are written on what I suppose is graph paper, making them really difficult to read sometimes (Eventually I just gave up reading the ones on the graph paper).
So the game takes place in 2010, but there are flashbacks to and time traveling back to 1955ish. However, one thing that bothered me was that you can interact with the phones in the present day, but not in the past, when they really would have been working. WAT. Same thing with the typewriters. Why are any of them interactable? When you interact with a typewriter all you hear is a DING sound, and with a phone all you get is a dial tone. Speaking of which, we’re to assume that after dozens of huge EMP bursts over the years that there are ANY electronic devices still working? WAT.
So I dunno, I’m not a scientist or anything, I just like what I like, and I didn’t really like this game. It has its good points. It has good action, interesting and upgradeable weapons, boss battles, weird monsters and a whole lot of killing. . . but it really didn’t bring anything new to the table, and for me that’s what was really wrong with it. When you’ve played enough games (or seen enough Hollywood action movies) that things become clichéd, you don’t want what could have been a really good game to turn out like this. I will probably be in the minority for kind of disliking this game, and straight shooters (plot and annoyances aside) have their niche, but this game just didn’t speak to me. Definitely not worth $60. Good thing the pre-order came with a $20 video game rebate.
So I guess in summary, if you like things that go boom, and bloody violence all plot and cheesiness aside (and believe me, I can handle some cheese, but not when the game doesn’t realize it’s being cheesy, that’s just sad), then this game might definitely be something that you would like. If you are looking for a good shooter with a good story and intelligent dialogue, look elsewhere. . .

When I saw the IGN review bad, I put in the original game. Then I started seeing comments from other game sites and personal reviews from gamers. I decided to pick up my game and I am happy. Initiative is something that the press is not forward the genre, this game managed to do what it wants to do. This is a solid FPS, with very neat sci fi and horror elementiem.Es something for a long time in this review, but let me just say that the environment really is. Sound is taken, and the enemies are varied and entertaining. How I beat the game not yet, like machine TMD (time thingy manipulater), and other weapons. Warning: I play hard, and as far as I can give you trouble if you can not get to change the problem Midway. This hard so hard, so this is uzmanīgs.Grunts line. If you are a fan of FPS, like me, get this. Not much right now anyway. It is safe for Killzone, but worth your time. Rating: 4 / 5
If you are reading this review, then I take it you are thinking of purchasing this game because it looks cool, but at the same time, you are kinda iffy about it due to the fact that you probably haven’t heard that much about it. I bought this game today, and have only played up to the point where you aquire the TMD (Time Manipulation Device) in other words the star of the show. From what I have seen so far (За 30-45 minutes in the game) the game is awesome in my opinion!! I gave it 4 Звезди “SO FAR” because I like what I see about the game so far. Within minutes of the game starting, FPS veterans will immediately notice aspects of COD4 and Bioshock. Although this game is neither of the two by a long shot, but it does try and throw tactical situations at you in the first mission. I mention Bioshock because of the fact that the game does a good job of placing the player in an enviroment that was very much alive back in the 50s. The player will experience flashbacks similiar to those you experienced if you played bioshock to give you the visual of what happened in the past. I think the game uses this instead of actual cutscenes, but I am unsure. Also, there are audio logs littered througout the enviroment to give you more of an insight as to what is going on similar to those found in Bioshock and also various notes and letters too. The graphics are really nice, but again nothing you havent seen before in previous FPSs. The controls, thank heavens are really tight, but the combat could be a lot better, but nothing to complain about. This brings me to the TMD. . the star of the show. I think this is what seperates Singularity from other FPSs. The TMD feels a lot like the Plasmids in Bioshock. You can use this device to control time, the condition of certain objects in the game world. . . . for example. . let’s say a monster destroyed a switch needed to open a door to proceed foward. . Добре, you can use the device to bring the switch back to its original state so you can use it to gain access through the door. On the flip side, you can also age the switch to where its broken again so no one else can use it. I am unsure if you will actually be in that specific situation late on in the game, but you can age objects just as you can bring them to a “new” state. Singularity sort of blends the Cold War with new age technology, so the weapons that I have aquired in the game so far (revolver, shotgun, assult rifle, and sniper rifle) have a sort of futureistic look and feel to them. The voiceovers are done very well so far and the frame rate seems to be on point as well. I haven’t gotten into the multiplayer aspect of the game as of yet, but Game Informer said that it was pretty sick! I am sure that the TMD will have plenty of possibilities to bring a diffferent form of strategy in deathmatches though. Like I said I have only got about 30-45 minutes in the game so far, so this review is based on a sort of “is it worth 60 bucks” type a deal. . I think it is, but this may not be the game for everyone. Even though I mentioned Bioshock and COD 4, this game IS NOT either, but does use some of the same bread and butter that made those games great. The story seems interesting and in my opinion, this can easily become 5 stars by the end of the game just because it brings something just a little bit different. This review is based on the Xbox 360 version of the game. I hope this review was helpful to you.

This game really didn’t get alot of fanfare, but its a surprising gem. The story is actually pretty compelling and the endings (There are 3 based on your final decision) were completely unexpected. The gameplay itself is fairly standard FPS fare, and the AI is pretty much zerg and shoot nonstop so there’s not too many advanced tactics to be used – but the time altering device is a pretty sweet mechanic and the weapons provide enough different novelty approaches to be fun. The mood and atmosphere of the game really make it enjoyable, including the switching between time periods, and the variety between soldiers and zombie-likes.
One point where the game really surprises tho, is the multiplayer. There are currently only 2 MP modes out, but they’re awesomely stupidly fun. It’s kind of like Natural Selection meets Team Fortress 2. I’m hoping the MP doesn’t die and they release more modes/maps because honestly, while the game doesn’t hold much replay value other than for a once more through, the MP is one of those you can spend quite a few days goofing with.
Overall, it’s a great SciFi story with some nifty gameplay, not alot of replay value, but the multiplayer holds alot of potential. though, if you’re not anxious or won’t touch multi, you can probably either rent it or wait and pick it up on the cheap in a few months and still get the fun singleplayer experience at least once.
